Film Screening at The Theatre - American Utopia (dir. Spike Lee)
I am happy to announce I will be hosting a screening of the concert film American Utopia directed by Spike Lee on Thursday, March 25 at The Theatre.
Recorded during its late 2019 to early 2020 run at Broadway’s Hudson Theatre in New York City, Byrne is joined by an ensemble of 11 musicians, singers, and dancers from around the globe, inviting audiences into a joyous dreamworld where human connection, self-evolution, and social justice are paramount.
The screening will be followed by a discussion between me and Bryan Waterman who teaches in the Arts & Humanities division at NYU Abu Dhabi and writes about the cultural history of literature and the arts in New York City. His book on the band Television's album Marquee Moon chronicles the same downtown scene that produced David Byrne's band Talking Heads in the 1970s. His current research covers New York in the Age of Andy Warhol (1962-87).
We all miss concerts and live music, so this is the closest we can get to feeling the joys of a live musical performance. It’s a one night only event, so if in Dubai, don’t miss it.

According to the multi- hyphenate, we love looking at humans more than anything else. Anti-fascist and anti-racist, Byrne illuminates our responsibility to care for one another as he and his co-performers burn down the house.
The Theatre is following the required government regulations with regards to cleanliness and social distancing, including reduced seating capacity with vacant seats next to the booked seats.
